Better Access to Care: Port Perry Hospital Upgrades X-Ray Equipment

Great news for the Port Perry community! New x-ray equipment at Port Perry Hospital is now up and running and is already supporting patients in the Emergency Department and on inpatient units, with plans to begin offering outpatient x-rays again very soon. 

The previous x-ray equipment had reached “end-of-life,” making it more prone to breakdowns and downtime. The new system offers clearer images with lower radiation, supports patients across the hospital, and is designed to protect medical radiation technologists from strain and injury with improved, ergonomic features. 

“Thanks to the generous support of the Port Perry Hospital Foundation and the hard work of our diagnostic imaging team, people across North Durham can continue to count on receiving high-quality care and advanced diagnostic imaging close to home,” said Kyle Hiemstra, Manager, Diagnostic Imaging, Lakeridge Health. “This upgrade to state-of-the-art x-ray technology means patients and families will have the best in imaging care right in their community.” 

The x-ray upgrade is part of Lakeridge Health’s commitment to bringing safe, modern, and reliable diagnostic services to Durham Region. It also builds on the exciting progress made in 2023, when Port Perry Hospital welcomed a new state-of-the art CT Scanner. Before the arrival of the CT scanner, patients frequently had to travel to other Lakeridge Health locations to access this essential service. Today, with the addition of this advanced x-ray technology, patients can further receive timely, high-quality care without leaving their community.
