Volunteering
Volunteer Recruitment Is Open!
We're excited to announce that volunteer recruitment has reopened for adults and post-secondary students interested in volunteer roles at Lakeridge Health.
If you are looking for a meaningful way to positively impact your community, we would love to hear from you. Volunteers make an impact by supporting patients, residents, families, and visitors through compassionate service, friendly interactions, and a welcoming presence across our facilities.
High school student volunteer opportunities are currently available only at Lakeridge Gardens Long-Term Care Home. Wednesday and Thursday shifts from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. are very limited, with additional opportunities available on weekends.
Retail volunteer opportunities, including gift shops, cafes cafés, and off-site stores, remain open and continue to welcome applications.
Featured New Volunteer Opportunities
Discover new ways to support patients and make a meaningful difference.
We're excited to introduce two new volunteer opportunities that offer meaningful ways to support patients and enhance their hospital experience.
Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) Volunteer
Support older adults through connection, conversation, and meaningful engagement.
Lakeridge Health is recruiting volunteers for the Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) pilot at Ajax Pickering Hospital. HELP volunteers will spend time with older adults receiving care, supporting social connections and engagement through structured, non-clinical interactions.
Volunteers must be comfortable in a patient-facing hospital environment and able to follow safety, privacy, and role-boundary expectations. Selected volunteers will receive HELP-specific training and clear guidance. New volunteers must complete screening, health clearance, and onboarding before beginning.
Location: Ajax Pickering Hospital
Volunteer commitment: Monday to Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Eligibility: Adults aged 18 and older
Ideal for
- Existing Lakeridge Health volunteers
- Students interested in health care, healthy aging, or patient experience
- Community members who enjoy supporting older adults
Next steps
Register for the virtual information session on August 19 at 6 p.m. by emailing Volunteer Resources.
If selected, Volunteer Resources will support you through screening, health clearance, onboarding, and HELP-specific training.

Make a hospital stay a little brighter through conversation, companionship, and connection.
Patient Companion volunteers spend time with patients who may benefit from additional social interaction during their hospital stay.
This flexible role is ideal for volunteers who enjoy talking with people, building meaningful connections, and making a positive difference one conversation at a time.
Location: Oshawa Hospital
Volunteer commitment: Scheduled based on patient needs and volunteer availability
Ideal for
- Volunteers who enjoy conversation and connecting with others
- Students interested in health care or patient experience
- Community members looking for a flexible and meaningful volunteer role
