Your cancer care and treatment

Our appointments at the cancer centre page offers information on what you can expect for your appointments.

Call your nurse if you experience flu-like symptoms before any scheduled appointment. The nurse will call you back to safely plan for the next steps in your care.

Protecting yourself from seasonal illnesses

Is it safe for you to receive the flu, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and COVID-19 vaccines?

Most patients having cancer treatment(s) can safely have these vaccines. Ask your oncologist if these vaccines are safe for you.
Ask your family doctor about criteria for the RSV vaccine.

Where can you get the vaccines?

At a local pharmacy.

It is important your family members and friends get their vaccines too!

Family members/care partners

You may bring one (1) family member/care partner with you to appointments if you need their support. Your family member/care partner needs to:

Be symptom free (not have any symptoms of a cold, the flu or any other virus).
Use hand sanitizer or wash their hands with soap and water often.

We may need to restrict the number of family members/care partners in some areas of the cancer centre where space is limited. We need to make sure we can safely provide care and treatment to all patients.

We treat breast cancer (male and female), gastrointestinal cancer (esophagus, stomach, colon, rectum, liver, and pancreas), genitourinary cancer (prostate, testis, kidney and bladder), gynecological cancer (ovaries, cervix, uterus and vulva), hematology (lymphomas), melanoma, skin cancer and thoracic cancer (lung and chest).
