Clothing Drive Donations Keeping Community Members Warm This Winter

Thanks to the incredible generosity of Lakeridge Health team members, more than 3,000 individuals and families in need across Durham Region and Scarborough will be warmer this winter.

As part of the Durham Community Action Group (DCAG) Winter Clothing Drive, two full truckloads of winter gear – including coats, boots, hats, scarves, gloves, mitts, and long-sleeved shirts and sweaters – were collected from Lakeridge Health’s five hospitals, Lakeridge Gardens long-term care home, and the corporate Champlain site office on December 21, 2023. The donations, which were amassed in under two weeks, are helping to support asylum seekers from various countries, as well as individuals and families facing homelessness.

“These donations were received with much gratitude,” said Gloria Small, Chair, DCAG, a community-based, not-for-profit organization that has been supporting the Durham Region since 2008 with a focus on the Black and African Canadian community and minorities.

“There was fear going into the winter season about being able to find warm clothing, so the individuals and families served were extremely appreciative and most were very tearful when receiving the donations.”
