Enabling Works Advance Next Phase of the Bowmanville Hospital Redevelopment Project
(Durham Region) – November 5, 2025 – Today, Lakeridge Health marks the next milestone that advances the Bowmanville Hospital redevelopment project through an enabling work.
To prepare the site for construction, three residential properties at 18, 20, and 22 Prince Street, Bowmanville needed to be demolished. The land where these houses stood will be repurposed for the Bowmanville Hospital redevelopment project. Following a competitive Request for Proposals process that began in July 2025, REA Construction was selected to complete the demolition and site preparation work.
This moment marks a pivotal milestone in the Bowmanville Hospital redevelopment journey, bringing us one step closer to a state-of-the-art facility that will better serve the growing needs of residents in Durham Region, a community that will double in size by 2041. This milestone is made possible in partnership with the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation whose We Care, We Can campaign is raising the community share of the redevelopment and essential equipment.
Throughout this phase of construction activity, Bowmanville Hospital’s services remain open. Lakeridge Health is committed to ensuring there is minimal disruption to the hospital’s daily operations, patient care, hospital services, immediate neighbours, community members, and local businesses. In addition, throughout the demolition process and redevelopment project, our team is ready to address any concerns, and ensure we maintain clear, proactive communication.
The Bowmanville Hospital redevelopment is an important part of advancing Lakeridge Health’s vision of One System. Best Health, supporting the delivery of integrated, high-quality care close to home. Once complete, the new Bowmanville Hospital will help increase the number of beds and introduce modern, patient-centered facilities.
