Peregrine Party: Echo's Big Debut at the Oshawa Hospital!
The family of peregrine falcons have returned to the Oshawa Hospital and welcomed an adorable new addition. In 2014, the pair of falcons were discovered by members of Lakeridge Health’s Engineering team. With support from the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Canadian Peregrine Foundation, a nest box was set up for the birds’ wellbeing and safety. The peregrine falcon pair – who mate for life – have successfully raised chicks atop the Oshawa Hospital every year
since.
This year, meet Echo! The Canadian Peregrine Foundation came to the Oshawa Hospital for the official banding. Very carefully, the falcon experts removed the Echo from his nest for a thorough examination. From weight assessments to talon measurements and gender confirmation, this process allows researchers to track their movements and understand their flight behaviors.
Now, Echo is in training mode, honing his skills with brief flights under the guidance of his parents! Take a look inside the nest here.
Big shoutout to our friends at the Canadian Peregrine Foundation and the Ministry of Natural Resources for teaming up with us to keep this feathered family safe, happy, and ready for their flying adventures!
