Using Blood Wisely: Lakeridge Health Receives National Designation for Safe and Responsible Blood Use

Lakeridge Health is proud to announce that the Ajax Pickering, Bowmanville, Oshawa, and Port Perry hospitals have achieved Choosing Wisely Canada’s Using Blood Wisely designation. 

This national designation recognizes hospitals that demonstrate excellence in red blood cell stewardship and a strong commitment to quality improvement. By achieving this designation, Lakeridge Health joins more than 160 hospitals across Canada that are leading the way for safe, effective and sustainable blood use. 

Through evidence-based practices, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration, Lakeridge Health has reduced unnecessary red blood cell transfusions, ensuring that patients receive the safest and most effective care possible. This achievement highlights the dedication of our Laboratory Medicine teams and clinical partners towards patient safety and resource stewardship across our organization.
