"We just can't stop staring at her!"

Leap Year baby a precious addition to blended family.

For Sarah Vernon and Robert Bickle, the birth of their daughter Chloe was already a happy addition to their family. With Robert having two boys aged 17 and 15, and Sarah having three boys aged nine, six, and four, Chloe is the first daughter and biological child for this blended family.

However, when Sarah needed to be induced three weeks before her due date and she and Robert learned Chloe would be a Leap Year baby, there was even more to celebrate.

“At first, we were uncertain about her being born on a Leap Year, but then we quickly realized how special it would be as she’s not going to find many people who share her birthday,” said Sarah, who notes that they will likely celebrate Chloe’s birthday on March 1 when it’s not a Leap Year.

Chloe entered the world at 5:43 a.m. on February 29, weighing four pounds, 14 ounces. Sarah shared that she and Robert are “so grateful for the amazing care they received from the team at the Ajax Pickering Hospital” for helping to deliver their daughter on her unique birthday.

“I also delivered my third son at the Ajax Pickering Hospital so I know what great care they provide,” Sarah explained.

As they look forward to their lives as a family of eight, Sarah shared that she and Robert “are still in shock” that they have a daughter. “We didn’t find out her gender during my pregnancy because we wanted it to be a surprise, and we truly thought we would have a boy. But we’re just so in love with her and we can’t stop staring at her!”
