Lakeridge Health is seeking an exceptional physician leader to serve as Site Section Lead, Surgical Assisting (Ajax-Pickering) within the Department of Surgery.
Reporting to the Division Head, this leadership role offers an opportunity to help shape the future of surgical care within one of Ontario's largest and fastest-growing hospital systems. The successful candidate will provide clinical and administrative leadership for Surgical Assistant services, support excellence in patient care, and contribute to the continued growth and evolution of our surgical programs.
As surgical volumes continue to expand across Durham Region, Lakeridge Health is actively advancing a sustainable Surgical Assistant Model of Care to support high-quality, efficient, and patient-centred surgical services. The Site Section Lead will play a key role in this work, helping to strengthen Surgical Assistant recruitment, engagement, quality improvement, and service planning while supporting a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
Key Responsibilities
The Site Section Lead will:

Provide leadership and oversight for Surgical Assistant services at Ajax-Pickering Hospital.

Support the safe, effective, and high-quality delivery of surgical care.

Foster a culture of professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and patient safety.

Support recruitment, onboarding, mentorship, engagement, and retention of Surgical Assistants.

Collaborate with surgeons, perioperative leaders, Medical Affairs, and hospital leadership to optimize service delivery and operating room efficiency.

Champion quality improvement initiatives and implementation of evidence-informed practices.

Support continuing professional development and lifelong learning.

Contribute to the development and implementation of Lakeridge Health's Surgical Assistant Model of Care.

Advance Lakeridge Health's academic, educational, research, and innovation mandates.
Qualifications
Applicants must:
-
Be an active member of the Lakeridge Health Credentialed Staff within the Department of Surgery and in good standing (or eligible).

Demonstrate a commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, professionalism, and health equity.
-
Have experience working within hospital-based surgical programs and multidisciplinary teams.
-
Possess strong leadership, communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
-
Demonstrate leadership experience or a willingness to pursue formal leadership development.
Experience in quality improvement, program development, workforce planning, medical leadership, or surgical operations is considered an asset.
