  • Volunteer Declaration & Sign-Off: Submit your Volunteer Declaration and sign off on the acknowledgment.

    • This check is mandatory for all volunteers at Lakeridge Gardens Long-Term Care Home who are over the age of 18.

  • Confidentiality Agreement: Review and sign the Lakeridge Health Statement of Confidentiality.

  • E-Learning Modules: Complete all assigned online training modules.

At the start of your onboarding, we will provide you with all the information you need for your health screening.

Two-Step TB Test:
Lakeridge Health’s Occupational Health team offers the two-step TB test to volunteers free of charge. If you choose to have this test done by your own health-care provider, please note that Lakeridge Health cannot reimburse those costs.

Volunteer Immunization Status:
We will give you a form that you’ll need to take to your family doctor or a walk-in clinic to have it completed. Any fees for this service are the volunteer’s responsibility.

When you apply and during your interview, we ask you to tell us which volunteer areas interest you. We match volunteers based on the needs of our facilities, along with your availability and preferences. While we do our best to accommodate your interests, we cannot guarantee placement in a specific area.

We kindly ask volunteers to commit for at least six months. This usually means volunteering for one shift per week, lasting 3 to 4 hours, on the same day and at the same time each week.

Yes! All volunteers are asked to wear a uniform along with a Lakeridge Health photo ID badge while volunteering. The specific uniform may vary depending on your volunteer type (such as adult, post-secondary student, or high school student) and the facility where you volunteer. Please note, there may be a small cost for the uniform, which volunteers are responsible for.

Absolutely! We just ask that you let us know as early as possible if you will be away, so we can plan accordingly.

Yes! Lakeridge Health offers complimentary parking to volunteers for the duration of their scheduled shifts as a benefit.

Yes! Volunteers who have completed more than 50 hours of service can request a reference letter. Everyone who volunteers, no matter how many hours, can also get a letter that confirms their volunteer hours.

Recruitment for our High School Summer Student Volunteer Program begins every March. Opportunities for high school students at Lakeridge Gardens may open at various times throughout the year.

Please check our website regularly for the most up-to-date information on available positions.

At this time, we are not able to offer summer-only placements for post-secondary students. We ask all post-secondary volunteers to commit to at least six months, with one shift per week (3 to 4 hours) on the same day and time each week. This helps us provide a consistent and meaningful experience for both our volunteers and the people we serve.

We understand many students are looking to complete their 40 required hours. However, our high school volunteer program requires a minimum commitment of one shift per week (3 to 4 hours) for at least six months.

This helps ensure a meaningful experience for both our volunteers and the people we serve.

At this time, our high school co-op program is on hold, and we do not yet have a timeline for when it will resume. Please check our website for any future updates. We appreciate your interest!

Yes! Research opportunities may be available as an added benefit for current volunteers who have completed at least 50 hours of service.

Volunteer roles do not include the opportunity to observe medical procedures or shadow healthcare professionals (such as doctors, nurses, or physiotherapists).

If you are interested in job shadowing, this is managed separately through Academic Affairs. For more information, please visit the Academic Affairs section of our website. If you have any questions, please call 905-576-8711 and ask the Switchboard to connect you with Academic Affairs.

We are happy to welcome volunteers from healthcare backgrounds. However, please note that our volunteer roles are non-clinical and do not involve providing medical care or opportunities to practice or develop professional healthcare skills.

Volunteering is a great way to gain experience, build your resume, and get involved in the Lakeridge Health community. However, all hiring is managed separately by our Human Resources team. If you are interested in employment opportunities, we encourage you to visit our Careers page for more information and current job postings.
