The Central East Prehospital Care Program (CEPCP) is seeking an experienced, innovative, and collaborative Associate Medical Director to join our dynamic team. As part of CEPCP, the Associate Medical Director will work closely with the Medical Director and two other Associate Medical Directors to support paramedic practice and enhance out‐of‐hospital urgent care across Central and Central Eastern Ontario.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will play a critical role in the development and oversight of high‐quality out-of hospital paramedic care, aligned with Lakeridge Health mission and values. Reporting to the CEPCP Medical Director, the Associate Medical Director will collaborate with paramedic service leadership, healthcare services, and the Ministry of Health in an advisory role.

This Associate Medical Director is a position with an expectation of a maximum of 10 hours per month. Compensation will be competitive and aligned with the candidate's experience.

The successful candidate will sign a contract annually.

Collaborative Leadership: Work with a broad range of health services to foster safe, high‐quality out‐of‐hospital care through innovative and integrated approaches. Pathway Development and Care Plan Revision: Lead initiatives to establish and refine out‐of-hospital care pathways and revise care plans to address urgent care needs, improve continuity, and enhance patient outcomes.

Education and Certification: Help establish ongoing training requirements, participate actively in developing and delivering continuing education programs, support skill development, and provide timely constructive feedback to paramedics.

Quality Assurance and Improvement: Direct quality assurance activities to monitor, assess, and improve paramedic performance, ensuring adherence to established care standards including the Advanced Life Support Patient Care Standards, provincially approved Patient Care Models, and approved research protocols.

Incident Review and Remediation: Participate in clinical care reviews, providing guidance on certification changes and approving remedial education plans as needed.

Advancing Paramedic Practice: Drive program development based on best practices and evidence‐based approaches, addressing local needs and advancing paramedic practice.

Research and Development: Promote and guide clinical research efforts within CEPCP, encouraging paramedic involvement and leadership on clinical and operational projects.

Provincial and Global Collaboration: Engage with other medical leadership entities on a provincial, national, and international level to align and enhance out‐of‐hospital medical standards.

Performance Evaluation

The Medical Director will meet at least semi-annually with the Regional Medical Director. The purpose of this meeting is to review current performance and evaluate areas of need for further education, improvement and areas of excellence.

The duties of the Medical Director will be reviewed on an annual basis with a goal of ensuring that new job descriptions are captured within the framework of the overall job description process and when necessary to readdress issues of appropriate remuneration.

Qualifications

Required

Applicants must:

• Licensure: Eligible to practice medicine in Ontario.
• Emergency Medicine Practice: Regular clinical practice in an emergency department with a minimum of 4 shifts per month.
• Medical Specialty: Hold a credential in emergency medicine (e.g., FRCPC, ABEM, CCFP(EM)).

Preferred / Assets

Preference may be given to candidates who demonstrate:

• EMS/PTM Specialty: Completion of an EMS/PTM fellowship or equivalent training in EMS/PTM during residency.
• Experience in prehospital care / Emergency Medical Services
• Quality and Safety Expertise: Education or experience in patient safety, quality assurance/quality improvement (QA/QI) principles, educational methodology, or clinical research.
