Mental Health and Addictions Support in Durham Region: You Have More Options Than You Think

When you or someone you care about needs mental health or addictions support, knowing where to start can make a difference. 

In Durham Region, there is a range of Mental Health and Addictions services to help connect people with the right care, in the right place. From crisis support and addictions care to community-based services, support is available for people with different needs and circumstances. 

For many people, Central Connect is a helpful first step. Central Connect offers one door to many supports, making it easier for patients, clients, and health-care providers to access the right mental health and addictions care. Central Connect can be reached at 905-440-7534 or 1-833-392-7363 toll-free. 

For people experiencing a personal or situational crisis, Durham Mental Health Services (DMHS) offers free, confidential crisis support 24 hours a day, seven days a week through its Crisis and CALL Line. Support is available by calling 905-666-0483 or 1-800-742-1890 toll-free. 

For people looking for help with substance use, including alcohol and opioids, the Rapid Access Addiction Medicine Clinic (RAAM) provides fast access to substance-use care. The RAAM Clinic can be reached at 905-721-4747 ext. 37226. 

Residential Withdrawal Management Services (RWMS) also provides support for withdrawal and recovery. RWMS may be a recommended treatment option for people over the age of 16 who are struggling to withdraw from substances on their own and do not have a supportive environment. RWMS can be reached at 905-440-7568, 905-721-4747 ext. 31229, or 1-888-881-8878. 

There are also other mental health resources available in Durham Region. People can call 9-8-8 for free mental health and suicide prevention support, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Ontario Shores provides specialized mental health assessment and treatment services (Ontario Structured Psychotherapy Program – available through self-referral), Canadian Mental Health Association Durham offers supports for day-to-day mental health management and housing, and Kinark Child and Family Services offers assessment and treatment services for children, youth, and families.
