Prostate Diagnostic Assessment Program
Last reviewed: December 3, 2025
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer affecting Canadian men. The Canadian Cancer Society estimates 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
When found early, prostate cancer can be highly treatable. There are also more treatment options available to men when their cancer is found early. Your family doctor may order a blood test called a PSA test based on your specific situation, health history and/or physical exam.
Your family doctor may refer you to a urologist. If you need further tests, the urologist will refer you to the Prostate Diagnostic Assessment Program (DAP) for a biopsy. The urologist works closely with a nurse navigator and the healthcare team to ensure your care is coordinated for a timely diagnosis. Treatment options may include surgery, radiation, brachytherapy and chemotherapy.
The Prostate Diagnostic Assessment Program is located in Clinic E at the Durham Regional Cancer Centre.
