Essential Partners-in-Care

At Lakeridge Health, we welcome the presence of Essential Partners-in-Care (EPCs) and recognize the important role they play in the healing and well-being of patients, clients, and residents. As such, we have developed an EPC Program to provide information and resources for EPCs on how to support someone at Lakeridge Health.

Partnering with families to improve communication

We want to work with and families/partners-in-care to ensure the best communication possible. Learn more about how you can help.

Family Presence Guidelines

We know how important it is for our patients/residents/clients to have their family members and essential partners-in-care involved in their care and care planning. We continue to limit the number of visitors at any one time. Please refer to the current Family Presence Guidelines for both inpatient and outpatient settings. Please note: these guidelines are updated regularly

Staying with Us

At the beginning of your care journey, you will be asked to let us know who you want to be involved in your care planning and decision making. Having one family member/essential partner in-care identified as a spokesperson to share and receive updates helps to improve communication between the health-care team and those who you wish to keep informed.

What you need to know when you visit a patient at Lakeridge Health

You may need to shorten your visit if the person you are visiting is tired and needs to rest. To keep the hospital a restful environment for everyone, we have designated quiet hours from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Please speak with a member of the health-care team if you and the patient wish for you to stay during these hours. We will try to accommodate these requests whenever possible and based on the current family presence guidelines.

The best way to prevent the spread of infection to you and your loved ones is to wash your hands or by using hand sanitizer. Each person that visits must clean their hands when they enter and leave.

Lakeridge Health supports a mask-friendly environment. Masks continue to be available at all main entrances of our sites. We understand masking is a personal choice, and we encourage you to continue masking if it makes you feel most comfortable.

  • Fever, aches or chills
  • New cough or shortness of breath
  • Diarrhea or vomiting
  • Runny nose / sneezing
  • Rash

You can visit again when you don't have symptoms for 2 days, as we want to keep your loved ones and our patients healthy

We welcome families and essential partners-in-care; however, you may be asked to leave the room of the person you are visiting at times for privacy and care reasons.

Please refrain from eating in patient rooms as many patients may have food and odour sensitivities. Visitors please eat in designated eating area.

Children who require supervision while visiting the hospital must be accompanied by an adult at all times other than the patient.

Lakeridge Health is a scent-free environment. Do not use any perfume or scented products before you come to the Lakeridge Health.

We are committed to treating everyone with dignity and respect. Please be patient and kind to others, including members of the health-care team and other patients, clients, residents, and families/essential partners-in-care.

Anyone who exhibits abusive behaviours will be asked to leave and may lose visiting privileges.

Please speak with a member of the health-care team if you have questions about any of this information. Thank you for your commitment to keeping Lakeridge Health a safe and healing environment for all.
