Organ Donation

It takes just one organ donor to save up to eight lives yet, every three days, someone dies waiting for a life-saving transplant in Ontario. Becoming a donor at the end of your life is exceedingly rare — generally, only about 1-2% of deaths occur under circumstances that make donation possible, and you are six times more likely to need an organ transplant than to become a donor. 

Lakeridge Health is a strong supporter of the Trillium Gift of Life Network and works with them to promote organ and tissue donation. There are more than 1,500 people waiting for a transplant in Ontario right now but less than 35% of Ontarians have registered their consent to donate. Not only does an organ donor have the power to save lives, one tissue donor can improve the lives of 75 people.
